A Pack of Wild Coyotes

Tim Smith, Partner/Team Manager/Designer; Hoover, Alabama

Tim is the dreamer who put the first Coyote Nitro car on the track. Built from scrap parts, and used material, Tim hand cut most of the parts to build the first Coyote. Tim's racing experience started in 1979 in electric racing, and switched over to nitro oval racing in 1995 by converting his Bolink Eliminator into a nitro car using the Advantage Racing Products rear pod. Talk about going back in time!!!

Tim met up with an old racing friend, Jimmy Simmons, in 2001, and talked him into coming out of "retirement" to help develop a nitro powered oval car. Team Coyote was born, and Tim and Jimmy have been working together devoping the Coyote into a competitive nitro oval race car.

Jimmy Simmons, Partner/Chief Designer; Hueytown, Alabama

Jimmy has been racing R/C cars since 1978, with 1/12 scale electrics. Jimmy has a unique ability to get the most out of a car, no matter how good or bad it is, or how good or bad the track is. He has won numerous Regional Titles, and National Titles, while racing with the likes of Joel Johnson and Tony Neisinger at Lake Whipporwill, in Orlando, Florida in the 1980's. Jimmy also raced at King, Spring Cove, Dalton, SugarBowl and finished second to Joel Johnson at Lake Whipporwill in the 1/10 Electric Enduro. Jimmy got into quarter scale, before unofficially retiring in 2000.

Jimmy joined Tim Smith in 2001, and formed Team Coyote Racing, and immediately started working toward designing his "dream car". Jimmy is Team Coyote's chief designer, and is a master craftsman when it comes to making a chassis work. His years of experience and talent in racing have produded the current 2009 Coyote Nitro Pan Car from seven years of constant changes and innovation. Jimmy won the 2007 GASCAR Series Points Championhip with consistent finishes and phenomonal driving talent. Jimmy IS "Team Coyote".

Scott Harper, Public Relations/Production Manager/Team Driver; Clay, Alabama

Scott started racing R/C cars in 1987 on dirt ovals and off road with his Kyosho Ultima 4WD buggy. His first on road pan car was a Bolink Eliminator Sport, which lit his fire for the ovals. Scott has raced all over the southeast at The Whip, Spring Cove, Dalton, King, Pine Bluff, and the Sugar Bowl. He quit racing oval in 1998 due to the constant battery wars, and later got into racing 1/18 scale electrics on an oval track in Hueytown, Alabama.

While at a 1/18 scale race one evening in Hueytown, Tim Smith asked Scott if he would like to race one of his Coyotes at the Boyd Hughes Race at Lagoon Park that November. Scott took the bait and finished second in his first race in nitro oval, and was hooked. Scott has become an integral part of Team Coyote with his expertise in chassis setup and handling. Scott has helped in the development of the 2008 and 2009 versions of the Coyote and won the 2008 GASCAR Series Points Championship. Few racers are aware that Scott drove Tim's very first Coyote back in 1999, when the car was epuipped with a 6 oz. fuel tank.......the car ran for nearly 40 minutes before running out of fuel......
